Childcare Program Schedule

Under the childcare volunteering program in India, participants work at local day care centers or “Anganwadis”, as they are locally called, located in and around the region of Palampur and Dharamsala and Jodhpur. Since the area is rural, there are not many qualified and well-trained caretakers for the children. Our volunteers play a significant role by providing the children with the much-needed attention, love, and care. Volunteers provide one on one attention to each and every child and helping the overall holistic development of the children. Volunteers also help the day care center staff by helping in daily jobs, such as feeding, cleaning, clothing, teaching and playing games with the children.
Volunteers joining the childcare program in India, Jodhpur, Palampur, and Dharamshala are required to follow a basic routine on a daily basis. This covers everything from meals to volunteer work and back. It must be noted that each placement may function at a different pace and on separate timelines making the schedule slightly differ at times. A generic daily schedule for volunteers is as follows:

This project is very much recommended for family volunteering in India wherein the family members can volunteer together. The accommodations are located in close proximity to the projects which would also be convenient for any children joining their parents on their volunteer program. Volunteers are assisted by the local staff and team for any kind of help they need in their work.

Doctors, nurses, and Para-medical staff can find meaningful volunteer work in our area. Major hospitals in India can always use the assistance of volunteers. Adventure Experience in volunteering also partners with rural medical missions throughout the region, giving you more opportunities to help bridge the gap between the medical needs and realities of the rural poor. This program is new and continually evolving – contact us for more information!

You will really be able to contribute in bringing a meaningful change in the lives of your less fortunate Indian fellows by doing volunteer work in India. The maximum benefit goes to the community in need while enriching the volunteers by huge experiences! At the same time, Adventures Experience in volunteering ensures that the volunteers in India, on the other hand, in many ways get more than they give! The Indian people are very curious, adapting, friendly and welcoming to the international volunteers. This creates a sense of belonging and attachment towards the community and helps the volunteers in India in immersing deep into the Indian way of life and building a home far away from their own home, with long lasting human relationships. Some of the families houses are made of clay soil while others (nomads) live temporary on a blanket under precarious housing conditions. Most of the people live together in domesticated animals and the area also has rats, wild dogs, pigs etc. All these animals will leave their excrement in the environment around the school. Several of the children go to school only for a few weeks due to the fact that their family is nomads. These nomads children are the dirtiest and seem to be worst affected by health related diseases. Almost all children are more or less affected by various and some teeth are in a very poor condition.

The most common disease in the area is upper respiratory tract infection and all children suffer off and on from this illness. The disease involves episodes of cold, cough fever and runny noses. Some children even get ear and throat infections which can lead to lower respiratory tract infection (pneumonia) and these kids are severe sick and have never been seen in school.

Since some children have difficulties to find motivation and/ or inspiration to live a healthier life it’s of importance to continue assists them with washing and brushing teeth. Because several of the children also show less interest in learning and going to school it’s of significance to encourage them to maintain schooling. It is also of importance to verify poor sight and hearing disability among the kids. Due to the fact that no one of them is using spectacles or hearing aids and according to the population in general, it is most likely that some of the kids are in need of using such means and it is a simple thing to measure as well as it might help the child enormous in developing and schooling.

Around 40% of India’s population live on less than 1 US dollar a day. This statistic is much higher in the rural areas where most of our work is carried out; where the consequences of such low levels of income are evident. Not only do we need to create training options and avenues for income generation, but we also need to improve the living conditions and lives of those most affected.

Moreover, there are a vast number of sociological issues that arise within the Indian state. If attended to, these problems that can easily be mitigated. Issues such as alcohol abuse, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, and insubstantial youth development, to name but a few, are rife within India. It is imperative that we work towards overcoming social problems such as these, because in addition to causing misery and suffering, they stand directly in the way of economic and social development.

Another way to help out Adventure Experience Volunteering or our partner organizations is through marketing and social media. NGOs depend on platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and organization websites to share stories and photos of the work they do to keep donors and volunteers informed. Volunteers can help us update and improve our marketing strategy as well as widen the reach of our organization through their own contacts.

Volunteer Recruitment:

Volunteers are the backbone of Adventure Experience volunteering and we can always benefit from more volunteers year-round. Current volunteers can help by writing reviews of their time at Adventure Experience volunteering on various international volunteer websites, finding new platforms to market Adventure Experience Volunteering, contacting universities back home to tell them about the intern and volunteer opportunities at Adventure Experience volunteering and simply giving talks about your work through Adventure Experience volunteering once you return to your home. We encourage creative ideas on volunteer recruitment, as the more people that come through our doors, the more people our projects can help.

Agricultural work is prominent and India and the work are difficult. Unfortunately, many farmers and labourers are extremely poor do to inefficient agricultural techniques and a decline in government support. Volunteers can help to research/develop and teach sustainable agricultural techniques and help farmers find new markets (such as organic farming).

Many of the families we serve have a very difficult time covering their costs each month, and a child’s school fees each year can be a great burden. Providing Child Sponsorships supports and protects the education opportunities for children in these struggling families. This program is in constant need of donors as there are always more children to support. Volunteers can help by spreading the word about the sponsorship program and attract more sponsors locally and abroad.

Education on subjects such as health, human rights, and environmentalism is vitally important for the underprivileged in India. Many urban and rural poor don’t know the rights afforded to them by the government or how to prevent HIV/AIDS. Additionally, environmental awareness is often a neglected cause in India that creates devastating side effects for the environment and the quality of life in India. Volunteers can research issues and prepare presentations to present to women’s microfinance groups or the children’s groups, with the assistance of a staff person to translate. Past volunteers have created awareness programs on HIV/AIDS, nutrition, health and hygiene, diabetes treatment and prevention, cancer prevention, mental illness, women’s rights, child rights, child labor laws, domestic violence, environmental issues, and much more.

While fundraising work may not produce as many memorable stories as working directly with the women or children, it is the backbone of every project that serves the underprivileged in our area. Many volunteers find it rewarding to spend half of their time on fundraising efforts and half of their time in direct service projects. Volunteers can help with fundraising by brainstorming fundraising events, using online fundraising tools, soliciting funds from friends and families back home, researching and writing grants that match specific projects and searching for the organization in India or in your home countries that are willing to support Adventure Experience in volunteering local programs. Even if you have never done fundraising work before, a creative mind can help raise funds that ultimately fuel our much-needed projects.
